 2017
Sep. 16th 2017, the final reports for the program of “Chemistry of molecular assemblies: Construction and dynamic regulation of hierarchical functional assemblies”, the National Basic Research Program (973), was held. Prof. Xi Zhang, the chief scientist of this program, hosted the meeting. Collaborative research groups from Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Jilin University, Institute of Chemistry, CAS and Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, CAS, gave reports on their research progress.
Aug. 28th 2017, 3rd Tsinghua-Bristol Joint Symposium on “Frontiers of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology” was held in Tsinghua University. During the symposium, 18 lectures were given by the professors and students from Tsinghua University and University of Bristol, UK. Prof. Xi Zhang served as the chair of Session 1. Zehuan Huang made a report about “Supramolecular Chemotherapy: Decreased Cytotoxicity and Enhanced Activity of Antitumor Drugs by Host-Guest Chemistry”. All the members joined the symposium and served as volunteers.
Jul. 2nd – 6th 2017, Prof. Xi Zhang, Dr. Jiang-Fei Xu and Zehuan Huang, Yang Jiao, Lingda Zeng, Linghui Chen, Bo Qin, Yuchong Yang attended the 12th International Symposium on Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry (ISMSC-12) held in Cambridge, UK. Prof. Xi Zhang gave a plenary lecture about “Supramolecular free radicals”.
May 27th 2017, Bin Yuan, Qiao Song and Yuetong Kang accomplished their defences of the requirement for the degree of PhD.
Mar. 27th 2017, Prof. Fengwei Huo from Nanjing Tech University visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture about “Parallel Scanning Optical Microscopy (PSOM)”.
Mar. 27th 2017, Dr. Jiaxing Huang from Northwestern University, USA, visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture about “Curious Minds and Materials Discoveries”.

Oct. 27th 2016, Prof. Zhibo Li from Qingdao University of Science and Technology visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture about the principles and applications of Cryo-TEM.
Oct. 26th 2016, Dr. Chao Wang from University of California, Riverside, USA, visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture about “Self-Healing Polymers for Electronics, Energy Storage and Actuators”.
Prof. Xi Zhang was honored with Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award (2016).
Oct. 21th 2016, the joint seminar was held between our group and the research group of Prof. Shu Wang from Institute of Chemistry, CAS. During the seminar, Prof. Xi Zhang and Prof. Shu Wang gave wonderful opening remarks about the importance of communications and collaborations. Qiao Song, Zehuan Huang, Yang Jiao from our group and Haotian Bai, Han Sun, Lingyun Zhou from Shu Wang’s Group made oral reports on their research works.
Oct. 19th 2016, Prof. Zheng-Rong Lu from Case Western Reserve University, USA, visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture about the development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the design of antitumor drug systems.
Oct. 13th 2016, Prof. Quan Chen from Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, CAS, visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture about Molecular rheology of polymers.

Prof. Xi Zhang was elected as American Chemical Society (ACS) Fellow in 2016.

Dec. 15th to 20th 2015, Prof. Xi Zhang and Zehuan Huang, Linghui Chen attended the International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies 2015 held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. Prof. Xi Zhang gave two lectures about “Molecular self-sorting for controllable suprapolymerization” and “Supra-amphiphiles: From molecular architectures to functions”, respectively.
Dec. 9th to 13th 2015, Prof. Xi Zhang and Zehuan Huang attended the 14th Pacific Polymer Conference held in Kauai Island, Hawaii, USA. During the conference, Prof. Xi Zhang gave a plenary lecture about “Controllable suprapolymerization” and was elected as new president of Pacific Polymer Federation.
Nov. 19th 2015, Prof. Rint Sijbesma, from Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands, visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture about “Mechanofunctional polymers: Luminescent probes & Catalytic triggers”.
Nov. 7th 2015, the joint seminar was held among our group, the research group of Prof. Huaping Xu, Tsinghua University, and the research group of Prof. Yapei Wang, Renmin University of China. During the seminar, Prof. Xi Zhang gave a wonderful lecture about “The story behind the discovery of Qinghaosu” for a brief introduction of 2015 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine. Yang Jiao, Zhen Wang, Yonglin He, Linghui Chen and Xinyue Zhang made oral reports on their research works.
Sep. 6th – 9th 2015, Prof. Xi Zhang, Dr. Jiangfei Xu and Yuetong Kang, Qiao Song, Zehuan Huang, Yang Jiao, Xiaoguang Liu, Linghui Chen attended the 4th International Supramolecular System Symposium held in Changchun. Oct. 17th 2013, 3rd CCS-PD/ACS-PMSE Joint Symposium on Polymers (Beijing) was held in Tsinghua University. Prof. Xi Zhang made an opening speech. Dr. Huaping Xu made a report on “Selenium-containing Polymers: A Promising New Biomaterial?”.
Oct. 12th – 16th, 2013, 17th Prof. Xi Zhang, Dr. Huaping Xu, Dr. Liulin Yang and Peng Han, Huifeng Ren, Wei Cao attended the 17th China Polymer Symposium held in Donghua University in Shanghai. During the conference, Prof. Xi Zhang gave a plenary lecture on supramolecular polymers, Dr. Huaping Xu made a speech about selenium-containing polymers.

Sep. 17th, 2012, Yiliu Liu and Jun Xu attended the 3rd Unilever-RSC International Symposium on Functional Materials Science held in ICCAS, Beijing. During the conference, Yiliu Liu gave a report on “Host-enhanced noncovalent interaction for supramolecular polymerization”.
Sep. 2nd – 6th, 2012, Prof. Xi Zhang and Dr. Huaping Xu attended the 4th Sino-German Frontiers of Chemistry Symposium held in Beijing, China. Dr. Xu gave a lecture on “Stimuli-responsive selenium-containing polymer assemblies”.
Sep. 4th, 2012, 1st Polymer Chemistry International Symposium was held in Tsinghua University. Prof. Xi Zhang attended the symposium and made opening remarks. All the group members joined this symposium and served as volunteers.

Jun. 9th – 12th, 2012, Dr. Huaping Xu and Kai Liu attended the Warwick Polymer Conference 2012 held in University of Warwick, UK. Dr. Xu gave a lecture about “Selenium-containing polymers”. After the conference, Dr. Xu and Kai Liu visited the University of Bristol.
Jun. 24th – 29th, 2012, Prof. Xi Zhang, Dr Huaping Xu, Yiliu Liu and Peng Han attended the World Polymer Congress held in Virginia Tech University, USA. During the conference, Prof. Zhang gave a plenary lecture about “Single-molecule force spectroscopy and polymer interactions”, Dr. Xu made an oral report on “Selenium-containing polymers”.

May 29th – 31st, 2012, Dr. Huaping Xu attended the 61 st SPSJ Annual Meeting as An Invited Lecturer of Asian Excellence. Dr. Xu gave a lecture about “Selenium-containing Polymers: from Molecular Design to Controlled Self-assembly and Disassembly”. After the conference, Dr. Xu visited the School of Engineering of the University of Tokyo.

May 13rd – 18th, 2012, Prof. Xi Zhang attended the 14th Conference of the International Association of Colloid and Interface Scientists held in Sendai, Japan. During the conference, Prof. Zhang gave a plenary lecture about “Supra-amphiphiles for controlled assembly and disassembly”.
Apr. 25th, 2012, Prof. Jonathan W. Steed from Durham University, UK, visited our lab and gave a wonderful lecture about “Supramolecular gels: responsive soft materials”.
Apr. 13rd – 16th, 2012, Prof. Xi Zhang, Dr Huaping Xu, Kai Liu and Yibo Xing attended the 28th Chinese Chemical Society Congress held in Sichuan University, Chengdu. During the conference, Prof. Zhang attended the China-Netherland Joint Symposium on Frontiers of Supramolecular Science and made an opening speech. Dr. Xu was honored with the 2011 Young Chemist Award of the Chinese Chemical Society and gave an invited talk on “Selenium-containing polymers and controlled self-assembly”.
Apr. 11st, 2012, Tsinghua-Netherland Joint Symposium on Frontiers of Supramolecular Science was held in Tsinghua University. Prof. Xi Zhang made an opening speech and gave a lecture about “Supramolecular polymerization driven by host-enhanced noncovalent interactions”. All the group members joined this symposium and served as volunteers.

Feb. 20th, 2012, Dr. Koji Harano from the University of Tokyo, Japan, visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture on “Supramolecular chemistry on functionalized nanocarbons: vesicles and crystal growth”.
Feb. 12nd – 15th, 2012, Prof. Xi Zhang attended the Australian Polymer Sciences Conference held in Tasmania, Australia. During the conference, Prof. Zhang gave a plenary lecture about “Stimuli-responsive polymeric superamphiphiles for controlled self-assembly”.
Dr. Huaping Xu was honored the 2011 Young Chemist Award of the Chinese Chemical Society. In total 10 young scientists received the award this year.

During the conference, Prof. Zhang gave an invited talk about “ A new supramolecular polymerization method based on multiple host enhanced charge-transfer interactions ” , Dr. Xu gave an oral report on “ Selenium containing polymers ” .
Sep. 15th, 2011, Prof. David Hu from Georgia Institute of Technology visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture on “ Ant rafts and other mater-repellent systems ”.
Sep. 6th, 2011, Prof. Oren Scherman from Cambridge University visited our lab and gave a lecture about “Cucurbiturils at interface between supramolecular chemistry and material science”. In the afternoon, the joint seminar between our group and the research group of Prof. Oren was held, Feng Tian, Yiliu Liu, Dezhi Jiao, Kai Liu reported their works.
Sep. 2nd - 5th, 2011, Prof. Xi Zhang joined The International Symposia on Advancing the Chemical Sciences (ISACS6) in Peking University, and gave a plenary lecture on “Superamphiphiles for controlled self-assembly”. All the group members attended this symposium.
Aug. 6th, 2011, Prof. Mitchell A Winnik from University of Toronto visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture about “ One-dimensional patterned nanowires of uniform length by self-assembly of coil-crystalline block copolymers ”.
June 22th, 2011, 50 Years Angewandte Chemie International Edition Symposium was held in Tsinghua University. Prof. Xi Zhang made an opening speech and gave a lecture about “ Superamphiphiles for Controlled Self-Assembly and Disassembly ”. Dr. Huaping Xu served as secretary of the symposium. All the group members joined this symposium and served as volunteers, Dr. Chao Wang was awarded the best poster paper of the conference.
May 24th, 2011, Fang Liu, Pengbo Wan, Zhenhua Jiang, Zhihua Liu, Chao Wang accomplished their defences of the requirement for the degree of PhD.
May 8th - 11st, 2011, Prof. Xi Zhang joined The 1st International Symposium on Colloids and Materials in Amsterdam, Dutch. Prof. Zhang gave a plenary lecture on “ Superamphiphile for controlled self-assembly ”.
Apr.5th, 2011, Prof. Carsten Schmuck from University of Duisburg-Essen visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture on “ Fascination Supramolecular Chemistry: from the recognition of biomolecules to switchable nanoassemblies ”.

Dr. Huaping Xu et al. have reported the selective load and transfer of positively charged functional species using a surface molecular imprinted layer-by-layer film attached to PDMS stamps (SMILbL-PDMS). This work was published on Advanced Materials (2010, 22, 2689), and Highlighted by NPG Asia Materials titled by“Surface printing: Stamp of approval”.
Sep. 6th, 2010, the joint seminar between our group and the research group of Dr. Zhibo Li, Institute of Chemistry, CAS were held at Room 406, Hetian building.
In Aug. 11th-15th, 2010, Dr. Huaping Xu joined third Sino-German Frontiers of Chemistry Symposium at Kloster Seeon, Germany, which was first initiated by German Chemical Society (GDCh) and Chinese Chemical Society (CCS). After this main symposium, Dr. Huaping Xu and 6 other Chinese delegates joined the Satellite Meeting-Materials Chemistry at Konstanz from Aug. 15th to 17th.
In July 18th-21th, 2010, Prof. Zhang took part in 13th International Conference on Organized Molecular Films (LB13), which was hold in Quebec City, Canada. Prof. Zhang gave a report as an invited speaker and was selected to be on the International advisory committee of Organized Molecular Films.
July 9th-31st, 2010, Steffen Kanzler, a PhD student from University of Müenster, Germany, stayed in our group for three weeks, to carry out an investigation on the collaboration between researchers from China and Germany in the TRR61 joint project.
June 24th, 2010, “China-UK workshop on frontiers of supramolecular chemistry” was held in 406 Meeting Hall of Hetian building. The work shop was coorganized by Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK and the department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University.
Prof. Zhang was awarded the Akzo-Nobel chemical prize of CCS in June 20th, when he took part in the 27th Chinese Chemical Society Annual Meeting & Exposition, 2010,Xiamen.

During April-May, 2010, some professors from Europe and Suzhou--Charl FJ Faul (University of Bristol, UK), Prof. Gerhard Wilde and Prof. Yong Lei (University of Muenster, Germany), and Hongwei Ma (Suzhou Institute of Nano-tech and Nano-bionics (SINANO), CAS, China) visited our lab and gave a lecture to the department.
April 22nd, 2010, the ceremony of EDIC Cup Scholarship was held in the Lecture Hall of School of Science, Tsinghua University. Chao Wang from our group was awarded as the first level and gave a presentation at the ceremony.
March 18th -20th, 2010, Prof. Xi Zhang, Dr. Huaping Xu, Ning Ma and Chao Wang attended the United States for ACS Spring 2010 Annual Meeting & Exposition at San Francisco.
March 15th -20th, 2010, Bart Jan Ravoo from University of Müenster, WWU, Germany, came to Tsinghua. He gave three tutorials to our group member as well as a general lecture to all the members in department of chemistry.
Jan. 29th, 2010, the joint seminar between our group and the research group of Prof. Tingbing Cao were held at Renmin university of China.

Oct. 26th-31st, 2009, “US-China Workshop for Early Career Chemical Scientists-SUPRAMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY” was held at Tsinghua University. Prof. Xi Zhang gave a talk about “Supramolecular Amphiphiles for Controlled Self-assembly and Disassembly”.
Oct 14th, 2009, Prof. Takashi Kato from Tokyo University visited Department of Chemistry.
Oct. 5th-7th, 2009, the Second International TRR 61 Symposium was held at University of Münster, Germany. Some of our group members attended the symposium and Prof. Xi Zhang gave an invited talk about “How to realize controlled self-assembly and disassembly”. Consequently, a workshop of the German and Chinese students was also organized.
On Oct. 8th, Prof. Xi Zhang, Dr. Huaping Xu and 9 Ph. D. students visited MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology, University of Twente, the Netherlands, where a joint symposium was held together with four groups from Twente (MnF, SMCT, MTP, BNT).
The Paper about Redox Responsive Supramolecular Amphiphiles was selected as Hot Article by Chemical Communications.

Sep. 1st , Prof. Alexander (Sasha) V. Kabanov (University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA) visited our lab and gave a lecture.
Aug. 18th to 22nd, in the National Polymer Symposium of China, Prof. Xi was awarded “Prize for Honored Invited Lecture in Polymer Science” and invited to give a plenary lecture of “Molecular Self-Assembly and Ordered Thin Film”.
Aug. 10th to 17th, 2009, the summer school about “Chemistry beyond Molecular Level: Molecular Self-Assembly and Biological Simulation” was held in Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University.
July 17th to 21st, 2009, Prof. Wim Dehaen (KULeuven, Belgium) visited our lab and gave a lecture.
June 12th, four group members, Bo Song, Yugui Jiang, Yapei Wang, Senlin Chen got promoted in their PhD defense.
May 27th, Prof. James S. Nowick (University of California at Irvine, USA) visited Department of Chemistry and gave a lecture.
In the end of March, 2009, some professors from US and Europe--T. Bronich (USA), H. Fuchs (Germany), J. Huskens (the Netherlands) visited our lab and gave a lecture to the department. Many our group members introduced their work to them and got lots of helpful suggestions.
The Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) announced the list of Young Chemist Award winners at Jan. 20th, 2009. Our senior group member, Dr. Shuxun Cui is honored to be one of them.Dr. Cui got his PhD degree in 2004 under the supervision of Prof. Xi Zhang.

From Dec. 7st to Dec. 11th, 2008, Prof. Xi Zhang went to Germany, to presented at the startup of the German-Chinese Transregio Program, "Multilevel Molecular Assemblies: Structure, Dynamics and Functions" held in University of Münster.
Nov. 28th, 2008, the midterm panel view for the program of "chemistry of molecular assembly system – self-assembly of molecules and function of assembly system", the National Basic Research Program (973), was held in Wenjin International hotel.
Nov.11th, 2008, Prof. E. W. Meijer (Bert) (Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands) visited our lab and gave a lecture about "The non-covalent synthesis of supramolecular systems" at Room 406 of Hetian building.
